Born in New Haven, Connecticut on July 6, 1946, not in Texas as everybody is supposed to think. My family: Parents George and Barbara Bush. Brothers: Neil, Jeb, Marvin. Sisters: Dorothy My family moved to Odessa, Texas, from Connecticut and my father began work in the oil business. During the summer of 1977, I met Laura Welch in Midland at a dinner at the home of our mutual friends Joe and Jan O Neill. We got married just over three months later, on November 5, 1977. We didn't get married so fast because Laura was pregnant. Almost four years later my twin daughters, Barbara and Jenna, were born. They are named after their grandmothers. Their grandfather was the Vice-President of the United States at the time. My new Bush family lived in Midland, Texas, later moved to Dallas, and then Washington for a year when my father ran for President in 1988. Pretty exciting, huh? Education: I Attended Phillips Academy prep school at Andover, then Yale from 1964 until 1968 and graduated with a major in history; played baseball during freshman year and rugby during junior and senior years; became a member of the super-secret Skull and Bones society, followed in the footsteps of my dad and grandfather; later attended Harvard and earned a Masters of Business Administration in 1975. I was such a mediocre student that the dean of students at Andover was pessimistic about my chances of getting into Yale. He suggested that I have a backup option. Harvard Business school was a backup option that I eventually had to take advantage of after the University of Texas law school turned me down. Harvard alums say the admissions process was somewhat mysterious. There was no mystery really, my dad just took out his checkbook. Career: I was a Pilot in the Texas Air National Guard from 1968 until 1973. Attended flight school and flew F-102 aircraft with the 147th Fighter Wing, 111th Fighter Squadron of the Texas Air National Guard. I have most of my military records, no matter what anybody says. I campaigned for U.S. Congress in 1978 and lost to Democrat Kent Hance. After I lost the election I went back to the energy business and built my own oil company, that I eventually sold in a sweet inside trading scheme. I worked on my father's presidential campaign as an adviser and speechwriter, moving to Washington in 1987 to work full time on the campaign. After the election I returned to Texas, bought 1%(about $660,000) of the Texas Rangers baseball team, I got the city of Arlington Texas to build us a free baseball park, then I sold it for a profit of over 10 million. Then I moved back to Washington in 1991 to work as an adviser on my father's re-election campaign. After my dad lost to that skirtchaser Bill Clinton I was so angry that in 1994 I defeated Democratic incumbent Ann Richards to become the 46th Governor of the State of Texas. I hated Ann Richards for saying my father was born with a silver boot in his mouth. During my second four-year term as governor, I announced I was running for U.S. president. In my first four months of fund-raising, I collected record-setting contributions of $37 million. It's all about the money after all, isn't it? You know what happened after that. I got elected President. And I'm such a lucky guy that my brother was governor of the state that decided my election. Imagine that! |
